This year, Project Homeless Connect Rochester (PHCR) will be held on Thursday, September 13 at the Blue Cross Arena at the War Memorial from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. PHCR began in 2009 as an event dedicated to connecting homeless individuals and families to critical resources.
NCJW, GRS will have a booth at the event again this year. We hope to give away at least 400 menstrual kits to those who attend the event. In preparation, Temple B’rith Kodesh, 2131 Elmwood Avenue, will host a kit assembling party on Wednesday, September 5, from 4 – 7 p.m. Volunteers are invited to bring a package or two of name brand pads and help assemble them into kits. Kits will each contain at least 20 pads, enough for a full period. We’ll also assemble tampon kits. Sign up now.
Project Homeless Connect is a one-day, “one-stop shop’ event each fall, serving over 700 people that are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.
The services provided that day include information about housing, employment, government benefits, veterans’ benefits, and legal services. One of the busiest booths is the one that provides non-driver ID cards. Another is the booth that helps guests get replacement copies of their Social Security cards.
Basic and immediate needs are also addressed. There is access to medical and dental check-ups, and both men and women can get haircuts. There’s a coat room, where guests can choose a winter coat. Wheelchair and bicycle repair are also available. A full list of the services offered at Homeless Connect Rochester is at www.homelessconnectrochester.o
NCJW, GRS will share the booth with I Support the Girls, which will fit women with ‘gently used’ bras.
In addition to pads, you are invited to bring gently used bras and winter coats to the Temple B’rith Kodesh kit party. TBK has donation boxes for coats available at all times.
